A Day of Remembrance and a Day of Service - September 11, 2021 #summerofstryker

A Day of Remembrance and a Day of Service

Dear Friends of our National Cemeteries,

We all remember where we were when we heard the news. Twenty years may have gone by, but the memory is as fresh as if it was yesterday.

The Department of Veterans Affairs along with the cast and crew of "Narco Sub" feature film, will pause this coming week to remember and to honor those who lost their lives, as well as those who have served our Nation in the two decades since that fateful day.

VA Remembers September 11th
We know many feel called to mark this anniversary with more than just moments of remembrance, and for those who are able, we invite you to join us.

2021 National Day of Service
On Friday, September 10 at 10 am (local time), more than 60 VA national cemeteries across the nation are partnering with the non-profit Carry The Load to host a National Day of Service.
Following a brief ceremony, volunteers will clean headstones and perform other tasks to beautify these national shrines.

(Note: Start time is 9 a.m. at Washington D.C.-Baltimore area national cemeteries)

Another way we can honor those who've served is to pay tribute to a Veteran using the
Veterans Legacy Memorial site.

VLM is an online platform memorializing more than 3.8 million Veterans interred in VA national cemeteries. Each Veteran has his/her own memorial page where families and visitors can upload a short tribute, photos, documents and more.

VLM is easily accessible by smart phones.
Please share this message with others who may be interested in volunteering for our National Day of Service or in posting a tribute on the Veterans Legacy Memorial site.

Thank you for everything you do on behalf of Veterans and their families.

Nestled along one of the Sierra Nevada’s pristine lakes is Huntington Lake Resort. Just 65 miles from Fresno in California’s Central Valley,Huntington Lake Resort offers visitors cozy cabins, delicious food at The Grill, a full service marina and a variety of entertainment on the dock Friday and Saturday nights.

Huntington Lake is situated geographically where strong prevailing winds blow everyday. This has helped the popular waterway to become a premiere high altitude sailing destination.

During June and July 2021 you can join or watch the regattas as the boats decked out in colorful sails compete against one another.

You can find out more about the Huntington Lake Regatta.

Fishermen ply their trade catching Rainbow and Brown trout from boats, floating tubes or from along the shoreline. A number of other lakes are within easy driving distance from the resort.

Other outdoor recreational opportunities are plentiful as well. They include, but are not limitied to, hiking, mountain biking, water skiing, house boating, horseback riding, bird watching and sightseeing.

At just over 7,000' in elevation in the Sierra National Forest, the Huntington Lake regional daytime temperatures are fairly mild, the nighttime temperatures are crisp and the air is always clean and fresh.

Always bring a coat, rain gear and an umbrella when traveling in the Sierra National Forest. Afternoon thunderstorms are not uncommon.

So make plans to pack up the family bring along your friends and have a great weekend or extended vacation here at Huntington Lake Resort.

By the way, you can bring your "whole family" because Huntington Lake Resort is Pet Friendly!
